About the author
Hi friend!
My name is Adrienne and I’m here to spill my blood in ink. Poetry has served as a therapeutic outlet since I was as young as nine years old. I’ve been reading it since I was seven. It’s always been challenging for me to feel and understand my emotions and environment. As a trauma survivor, I’ve become aware of my inclination towards avoidance when overwhelmed or when I’m afraid to confront an emotion. This avoidance has caused me to avoid taking action, resulting in my life spiraling out of control when detached for long periods. Dissociation and repression have been my body’s most treasured defense mechanisms for most of my life. Poetry provides me with a blank canvas to face all the challenges I’m given so that I can physically feel and make space for the emotion to be identified, accepted and then let go of. Poetry and journaling help me recognize and navigate patterns in my thoughts and behaviors. I utilize that information to help me grow.
What you will find in this blog are poems by yours truly. Writing tips, essays and journal entries. Rants, jokes, and other pedantics. The topics I discuss will vary depending on my mood, or current special interest. Potential topics include, and are not limited to: mental health, psychology, love and romance, women’s health and welfare, parenting, aliens, philosophy, humanitarianism, erotic poetry, art, music, politics, existentialism, spirituality and more.
I believe that human beings are unique to this planet in that we are here to create. Our imagination and innovations will be where we find we are most powerful and free. We are here to think authentically. To process multiple perspectives and reach a personal understanding. To learn how to love and be loved. I think art is magic and without the two we wouldn’t be any different from other living beings. It’s how we get ahead, how we progress as a society. How we transmute emotion and convey messages clearly. Art gives the creator a chance to fully come alive.
I believe we are all artists in our own way:
FYI Trigger Warning, babe.
